Attending a Wedding

Attending a wedding at Dundas Castle

Dundas Castle is a private family home and we hope that whilst you are here, you will feel at home, relax and have a truly memorable occasion. We do ask, however, that you read the following carefully, so that you and your fellow guests help to make the wedding day dreams come true for your hosts!

What catering facilities do you have at Dundas?

As Dundas Castle is a family home we do not have a restaurant facility.  Dundas is hired on an exclusive use basis, which means that you and the rest of the wedding party will have sole use of the Castle to enjoy in full privacy. All food and drink is pre-ordered by your hosts and is provided for you by our long standing caterer ‘Prestige Venues and Events’. No other food or drink, with the exception of baby food, can be brought in to the Castle.

Can I bring pets to the Castle?

Pets are strictly not allowed at Dundas, with the exception of assistance dogs, who are very welcome.  We can recommend local boarding kennels should you require this service.

Do you allow Chinese Lanterns?

Unfortunately as Chinese lanterns are not environmentally friendly, potentially hazardous and pose a risk to wildlife on the estate, they are not permitted.

Will there be somewhere to leave wedding gifts and cards?

Couples often provide a central point or post box for gifts and cards. Please ask one of the main wedding party on arrival where you should leave gifts. Unfortunately the Dundas Castle team cannot take any gifts or cards on your behalf.

Are there are any hotels locally where I could stay the night?

We are very fortunate to have a good selection of accommodation locally. Some hotels closest to the Castle include:

Can you refrigerate baby milk or food for guests?

We have many guests who visit with small babies and need to keep milk cold. This is not a problem at all. It may be a good idea to stick a name label on the milk container. Please speak to one of the Dundas team on arrival. They will be more than happy to help.

Is there parking available at the Castle?

There is a complimentary car park at the rear of the Castle for guests to use. This can be used overnight for residential guests. Please note there is no parking at any time in the Courtyard.

Does Dundas Castle have a bar?

Dundas has a bar in the Pavilion and in the Main Hall, when required. When a paying bar is requested, we accept payment by credit and debit cards.

Under no circumstances should alcohol be brought into the Castle by guests; this could jeopardise our Alcohol License and put future events at risk.

Any alcohol brought in by guests will be confiscated and your wedding couple may be charged a £500 fee. Please avoid any embarrassment and observe this point.

Is confetti allowed?

Unfortunately confetti of any type is not permitted.

Can I bring my drone to get some aerial footage?

The use of drones is only permitted by prior arrangement for professional photographers and videographers, who must provide their CCA Drone License and proof of Public Liability Insurance. Please do not bring a drone with you as it will be confiscated.

Can you recommend any local taxi firms?

We strongly advise all non-resident guests to book a taxi home in advance. This is particularly important for weddings which take place on a Friday and Saturday, when taxis are very much in demand in the local area. Here are some numbers which you might find useful:

Local taxi firms:

  • Capital: 0131 777 7777
  • Jimmy’s: 07866 570212
  • Kirkliston Private Hire: 0131 331 3232
  • Dalmeny Cars: 0131 300 0767

Edinburgh taxi firms:

  • Capital: 0131 777 7777
  • Central Taxis: 0131 129 4466
  • City Cabs: 0131 228 1211
I'm staying overnight, what time is check-in and check-out?

Check in is strictly from 12 noon. We politely request that you do not arrive before this time, as we will not be able to allow you early access.

A full Scottish and continental breakfast will be served in the Croquet Room from 9am, unless otherwise agreed. You will need to vacate your bedroom of all your possessions by 9:30am to allow housekeeping access. All guests must have left the Dundas Castle Estate by 10:30am.

Is there lift access to the bedrooms?

We have a lift to some bedrooms, which can accommodate a wheelchair. Our helpful team will provide you with assistance on the day if needed.

Can non-resident guests come into the Castle after Midnight?

Dundas Castle is not a hotel and does not have the same type of alcohol license. After midnight, only resident guests are permitted in the Castle. Should any non-resident guest be found in the Castle at the point, your wedding couple will be charged a £500 fee. Please avoid any embarrassment and adhere to this important point.

I will be driving to the wedding. What is the best route?

The Dundas Castle postcode is not recognised on any GPS navigation system, but by entering EH30 9SS into your device, you will be directed to the B800, where you will see the sign for the main entrance to the Castle. Please follow the main drive to the front of the Castle, where you can unload your luggage. Your car will then be moved to the rear car park for you.
