Sustainability – Keeping the Castle Healthy

At Dundas Castle we continuously endeavour to play our part in making Scotland one of the worlds most environmentally friendly destinations.

Here are just some of our many contributions towards sustainability:

Renewable Energy

We wanted to make the most of the amazing estate that Dundas sits on. In 2012 Dundas started its renewable energy initiative with solar panels covering 325 square metres that produce 50kWp supplementing the Castle’s energy.

In 2015 we took the next step and completed the installation of a biomass boiler. This produces heat for the Castle, Auld Keep and Pavilion.

Social Responsibility

Dundas Castle is committed to offering exclusive hire for a reduced fee to a select number of charities each year. Special catering packages have been designed for these occasions. A free stay in our Boathouse can also be donated to charity auctions and raffle prizes to raise money for fundraising events.

Suppliers

The award-winning chefs at our catering partners, Heritage Portfolio, strive to work with as many local suppliers as possible to further reduce carbon emissions by reducing travel distance. By supporting local farmers we improve the quality and freshness while reducing our carbon footprint and assisting the national economy.

This effort does not go un-noticed with Heritage Portfolio recently winning the Visit Scotland ‘Taste Our Best’ Accolade for Dundas which is awarded based on commitment to using local suppliers within a specific distance of the venue.

Wildlife

Dundas Castle is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, badgers, foxes, hares, swans and herons. We actively encourage guests to explore the grounds on one of our woodland walks and always supply guests with walking maps.
