This cosy retreat is the perfect escape for a romantic break or could be a memorable gift for a loved one.
Some couples choose to shut the door behind them and use the Boathouse as a place of rest and recuperation. Others choose to make the Boathouse their base as they travel throughout Scotland, taking in some of the world-renowned sights that this beautiful country is known for. There are also those who choose to partake in an outdoor activity and here are some options for you to consider.
In conjunction with our partner, Alba Fishing, you are invited to enjoy a unique fishing experience either in the Scottish borders or in Berwick. The secluded and beautiful Spieraig Loch in the Scottish borders is 45 minutes away from the Boathouse and Whinney Loch in Berwickshire is 50 minutes away. As part of your day experience you will be driven from the Boathouse to your chosen location where you will be given all equipment necessary and tutored on the art of fishing. On the loch there are two boats available and plenty of safe bank fishing. A gourmet lunch is also included in the price along with wine, whisky, snacks for the transfer drive, fishing tackle, waterproofs and a DVD of images from your day. Prices start at £450 for two people fishing.
Dundas Park Golf Course is a moderately undulating parkland course situated on the Dundas estate. It is a 9-hole course that is not too demanding on the legs, but still provides a worthy test of your golfing skills and gives you a chance to take in the fresh air and beautiful surrounding countryside. It is a private club but guests staying on The Dundas Estate are welcomed by prior arrangement. Tee off times are subject to availability and must be prearranged. The cost is £15 per person. Clubs are available for hire from Dundas Castle.
Port Edgar Marina is situated in South Queensferry, only 10 minutes from the Boathouse. Working in partnership, we are delighted to offer guests of the Boathouse the chance to sail on the Firth of Forth. Using either a Keelboat or power boat (RIB), you will cruise the Forth with a skipper who will teach you how to helm the boat yourself. There are options for a cruise of the islands or even a private trip to Inchcolm, one of the islands on the Forth. Should you wish to stop off along the way, you are able to enjoy lunch or a drink in Aberdour or another of the quaint villages along the coastline. Please just speak to a member of the team if you have any ideas of your own. The cost for a private sailing activity for 2 is from £46 per person.
There are a number of planned walking routes available for you to enjoy during your time at the Boathouse that will provide you with a lovely way to explore the Dundas Castle estate. There are points of interest marked for you including the remains of the former walled garden where all the vegetables and fruits were grown for the Dundas Estate and a number of stunning view points. Along with the wide variety of plant species dating from early 18th century, it is common to see pheasants on the shorter grass, swallows flying overhead, swans swimming in the Loch, and even deer roaming the forest. No matter what the season, there are spectacular views from your balcony that will ensure that you will never forget your time at the romantic Boathouse on the loch.
