At Dundas Castle we continuously endeavour to play our part in making Scotland one of the worlds most environmentally friendly destinations.
Here are just some of our many contributions towards sustainability:
We wanted to make the most of the amazing estate that Dundas sits on. In 2012 Dundas started its reneable energy initiative with solar panels covering 325 square metres that produce 50kWp supplementing the Castle’s energy.
In 2015 we took the next step and completed the installation of a biomass boiler. This produces heat for the Castle, Auld Keep and Pavilion.
Dundas Castle is committed to offering our exclusive hire facilities free of charge to charities on a number of occasions each year. Special catering packages have been designed for these occasions. This will also include donating stays in the Boathouse for charity auctions and raffle prizes and providing the facilities to local charities for photo shoots and community projects for profile and fundraising events.
The award-winning chefs at our catering partners Prestige Scotland strive to work with as many local suppliers as possible to further reduce carbon emissions by reducing travel distance. By supporting local farmers we improve the quality and freshness while reducing our carbon footprint and assisting the national economy.
This effort does not go un-noticed with Prestige at Dundas recently winning the Visit Scotland ‘Taste Our Best’ Accolade which is awarded based on commitment to using local suppliers within a specific distance of the venue.
Dundas Castle is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, badgers, foxes, hares, swans and herons. We actively encourage guests to explore the grounds on one of our woodland walks and always supply guests with walking maps.
